The true measure of success

July 7, 2025 George Stamas

Throughout my career and life, I have always believed that success means little unless it’s shared. Community service isn’t just an act of giving—it’s about creating a positive impact that extends far beyond ourselves.

When I started GJK Facility Services, my goal was simple: to build a business that provided high-quality services while also making a difference in people’s lives. Over time, I’ve seen first-hand how supporting our communities—whether through employment programs, charitable initiatives, or environmental sustainability—creates lasting change.

One of the most rewarding experiences has been helping to provide opportunities for people who might otherwise be overlooked. Through initiatives like the Public Tenant Employment Program, we’ve seen individuals gain not just jobs but confidence, independence, and a sense of purpose. When businesses invest in their communities, the ripple effect is powerful. It lifts individuals, strengthens families, and builds a more inclusive society.

Philanthropy has also been a driving force in my life. Supporting organisations like the Epworth Medical Foundation, Lighthouse Foundation, and Kids Cancer Project has reinforced my belief that small acts of generosity can have an enormous impact. Whether it’s funding medical research, supporting homeless youth, or creating pathways for Indigenous employment, every effort counts.

Community service doesn’t always mean large-scale initiatives. Sometimes, it’s as simple as mentoring a young person, volunteering for a cause you’re passionate about, or finding ways to make your workplace more inclusive. The key is to take action—because when we lift others, we all rise together.

I encourage everyone to find a way to give back. Not for recognition, but because the reward lies in knowing you’ve made a difference. And that, to me, is the true measure of success.
